HealthStream Culture of Care is a new education library designed to help healthcare organizations build stronger workplace cultures and improve the quality of care delivered to every patient. The library is built around two distinct but connected series.
The Workplace Culture series focuses on the internal conditions that determine whether staff can perform at their best, feel safe, and be treated with fairness and consistency. It covers foundational employment law and compliance, psychological safety, harassment and discrimination prevention, manager effectiveness, and respectful treatment of employees across all backgrounds, identities, and life circumstances. The series is designed for all staff at the foundational level, with targeted subtracks for people managers, HR leaders, and compliance professionals. The series includes six subtracks:
-
Foundations of a Lawful Workplace — establishes the legal and policy baseline every employee needs, covering EEO, key employment laws, compensation practices, and harassment and discrimination prevention
-
Psychological Safety & Workplace Respect — builds the cultural foundation for a safe, respectful environment where every employee feels heard and valued
-
Leadership & Manager Effectiveness — equips people managers and clinical leaders with the skills to lead fairly and effectively across a diverse workforce
-
Respecting the Whole Employee — addresses the full range of human identity in the workplace, including gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, language, and national origin
-
Supporting Specific Employee Populations — prepares managers and HR leaders to recognize and respond to the unique needs of employees with caregiving responsibilities, veterans, and staff navigating generational differences
-
Navigating Sensitive Workplace Situations — practical guidance for managers and HR leaders facing the highest-stakes workplace moments, including conflict resolution, complaint response, and mental health situations
The Care Culture series equips patient-facing staff with the competency, communication skills, and population-specific knowledge needed to deliver high-quality care to every patient — regardless of background, language, identity, or circumstances. It covers culturally competent care foundations, cross-cultural communication and health literacy, clinically aligned care delivery, and targeted preparation for serving specific patient populations including high-risk and underserved communities. The series directly supports HCAHPS improvement, health equity initiatives, and accreditation readiness. The series includes six subtracks:
-
Foundations of Culturally Competent Care — establishes the clinical and conceptual baseline for the entire Care Culture series, covering implicit bias in clinical decision-making, health equity in practice, and the ethical use of demographic data
-
Cross-Cultural Communication — builds the practical communication skills needed for every diverse patient encounter, including health literacy, medical interpreter use, and building trust with patients who carry historical mistrust of the healthcare system
-
Clinical Track — Culturally Aligned Care Delivery — applies cultural competency directly to specific high-stakes clinical contexts including pain management, trauma-informed care, mental health, end-of-life care, and reproductive and pediatric care
-
Population-Specific Care — targeted preparation for serving distinct patient communities, with individual subtopics covering racial, ethnic, religious, and LGBTQIA+ patient populations as well as older adults and their caregivers
-
High-Risk & Underserved Populations — prepares clinical and care coordination staff for complex patient circumstances including housing instability, immigration status, refugee and asylum experience, law enforcement involvement, and social determinants of health
-
Aging & Community-Centered Care — purpose-built for staff in post-acute, geriatric, long-term care, and community health settings, covering culturally aligned end-of-life care, community health equity, and accessible care delivery

The SOAR program — free, accredited content from HHS supporting healthcare providers working with at-risk populations — is available in the HEB Library and HealthStream free content area. These courses are updated annually by HHS, with accreditation expirations beginning in August.
We have not yet received updated courseware from HHS for this cycle. Courses will remain available through their current accreditation period; however, if updates are not received prior to expiration, affected courses will be temporarily unavailable until new content is provided by HHS. Existing assignments will not be impacted until the course accreditation expires.
We will share additional updates as more information becomes available. |
| Users will now receive immediate email notifications when new workflow tasks are assigned (e.g., review, approval). Previously delivered in weekly or monthly summaries, these real-time alerts ensure users can take action right away—helping policies move through the workflow faster and reducing delays between stages. |
| A new API will soon be available that enables customers to retrieve policy information from their organization’s Policy Manager environment. This API will provide secure access to policy data, allowing organizations to integrate policy information with other systems, streamline reporting processes, and support custom workflows. |
Admins will be able to create, run, save, and schedule custom reports for Policy Manager via Insights. Users will be able to customize columns, filters, sort order, etc for Policy Manager data, and will be able to run and export reports from the Insights app.
Standard reports will still be available in the Policy Manager app, customizable reports will be available only in Insights. |
| Users will soon be able to seamlessly launch Policy Manager directly from the App Switcher (9-box menu) within HLC. This integration will provide a faster, more intuitive way to navigate between HLC and Policy Manager—making it easier to access and manage policies without disrupting your workflow. |
